EUDR Compliance at Nordic Approach: What We’re Doing and How It Benefits You

Steps we're taking in 2025

The European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) is bringing big changes to global supply chains, and as a specialty coffee importer, we are committed to ensuring full compliance. While we don’t anticipate significant deforestation risks within our supply chains, we are taking every necessary step to provide our customers with the transparency they need to continue operating smoothly under the new regulations.

As part of the Neumann Kaffee Gruppe (NKG), we have access to legal, environmental, and technological expertise that allows us to navigate this complex regulatory landscape efficiently. From mapping coffee plots to establishing clear due diligence protocols, we’re putting the right systems in place to ensure that all coffee sourced through us will meet EUDR requirements.

How We’re Preparing for EUDR Compliance

Being part of NKG gives us access to the tools, platforms, and expert support that help make compliance possible. But it’s our internal team that’s doing the day-to-day work—digging into the details, following up, and staying on top of the constant changes. It’s a big job, and with regulations and requirements evolving all the time, it’s very much an ongoing process.

Here’s what we’re currently doing to make sure both we—and our customers—are ready for the changes ahead.

1. Implementing Key Compliance Platforms

To efficiently manage and verify supply chain data, we will be using two main platforms:

  • Osapiens – This platform will serve as our central hub for supply chain data management and compliance tracking. It will allow us to consolidate supplier, product and customer data, ensuring that every coffee shipment comes with the necessary due diligence documentation.
  • NKG-GEO – This is NKG’s custom-developed due diligence platform that will handle risk analysis, farm mapping, and compliance verification. We are rolling out supplier surveys to collect key data such as farm location, land size, and ownership details, which will be plotted and analysed through NKG-GEO.

Together, these tools provide a system for validating geo-data, helping us avoid false positives—one of the biggest risks for suppliers and roasters. By ensuring accurate land verification, we reduce the chances of suppliers being wrongfully flagged as non-compliant, which could otherwise jeopardise their ability to sell to the EU. And by starting early, we have the chance to provide mitigation should this be needed.

2. Strengthening Supplier Partnerships

Ensuring compliance isn’t just about collecting data—it’s about collaborating closely with producers at origin to make the process as seamless as possible.

  • We are currently onboarding suppliers into Osapiens, providing them with a supplier portal to enter necessary data.
  • We are gathering initial farm information in order to start the formal verification process during the second half of 2025. As verified data has an expiration period, this ensures that the information remains valid when EUDR officially takes effect.
  • All suppliers will be required to sign up for our Code of Conduct, reinforcing sustainability, transparency, and ethical sourcing commitments.
3. Providing Roasters with Due Diligence Documentation

To keep things simple for our customers, all coffees we supply from next year will include a reference number to the due diligence report logged against the product. This will ensure that every lot meets EUDR requirements and remains eligible for sale in the EU.

Roasters, keep in mind:

  • SME (small and medium enterprises) compliance begins 30th June 2026. We will be compliant from 30th December 2025.
  • We are doing the work for you. Roasters won’t need to “request” this information, it will be provided by default to EU clients.

We will continue to share updates as we refine our approach, and we encourage you to reach out with any questions.
